Eight Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan, have issued a joint warning against what they described as Israel’s continued expansionist policies in the occupied West Bank. In a statement released on Monday, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar strongly condemned recent Israeli decisions and actions aimed at imposing unlawful sovereignty, accelerating settlement expansion, and creating a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied territory. The statement came a day after Israeli media reported that Israel’s security cabinet had approved measures to make land purchases easier for settlers in the West Bank while granting Israeli authorities greater enforcement powers over Palestinians. The ministers reaffirmed that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories and cautioned that ongoing settlement activity and other illegal measures by the Israeli government are fueling violence and instability in the region. They also reiterated their firm support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to self-determination and statehood.
