New Zealand has updated its immigration policies to address labor market shortages by making visa and employment conditions more flexible. The government aims to simplify migration for both workers and employers by adjusting criteria such as work experience requirements, wage thresholds, and visa durations.
According to Indian media outlet NDTV, the required work experience for skilled migrants has been reduced from three years to two, allowing qualified workers to more easily meet eligibility criteria and find employment in New Zealand. Additionally, two new visa pathways have been introduced for seasonal workers: a three-year multi-entry visa for experienced seasonal employees and a seven-month single-entry visa for low-skilled workers.
However, some visa categories, including the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) and Specific Purpose Work Visa (SPWV), have been discontinued. Employers must now provide detailed job descriptions and salary information to align with the updated requirements.
To bring their children to New Zealand, AEWV holders must earn a minimum annual income of NZD 55,000 under the new rules. These changes aim to alleviate labor shortages while maintaining robust immigration standards.
