Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has praised U.S. President Donald Trump and the U.S. administration for their “active role” in brokering the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. On May 10, the ceasefire, which took effect at 5 p.m., was confirmed by both India and Pakistan, with Trump initially announcing the agreement.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his appreciation for Trump and his administration’s involvement in ensuring peace in the region. He specifically thanked Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their “valuable contributions to peace in South Asia.”

Sharif emphasized that Pakistan views the ceasefire as a new beginning in solving issues that have hindered the region’s peace, prosperity, and stability. He also highlighted that this step marks the start of a new phase in the journey toward overcoming regional challenges.

Earlier on Saturday, President Trump posted on his Truth Social account, confirming that both India and Pakistan had agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, facilitated by the United States. Trump praised the wisdom of both countries for reaching this agreement after extended discussions with their officials.
