A team from Bangladesh’s Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) came under attack while attempting to arrest a suspect in Saidpur of Nilphamari district. During the incident, a PBI microbus was vandalized and two officers were injured, while the suspect managed to escape amid the chaos.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in front of Khalek Market on Shaheed Dr. Zikrul Haque Road in Saidpur municipality. The suspect who fled has been identified as Mohsin Ali, a resident of the Munshipara area of Saidpur. He owns a garment business located inside Khalek Market.
The injured officers were later identified as Sub-Inspector (AI) Mofijul Islam of Narayanganj PBI and Constable Satyendranath Roy.
According to police and local sources, the PBI team had traveled from Narayanganj to Saidpur to arrest Mohsin Ali in connection with a fraud case. He was initially detained from a business establishment inside Khalek Market. However, while officers were placing him into their microbus, the suspect began shouting that they were “fake DB police.”
His claims quickly drew the attention of bystanders, who gathered at the scene and formed a mob. The crowd then attacked the PBI officers and damaged their vehicle. Taking advantage of the situation, the suspect fled the scene.
Upon receiving information, police from Saidpur Police Station arrived and escorted the injured PBI members and the damaged microbus to the station. The two injured officers were treated at the Saidpur 100-bed Hospital.
Saidpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim Reza said the PBI team was conducting an operation to arrest a suspect wanted in a case filed at Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj. He added that legal action is being prepared over the attack, and efforts are underway to rearrest the fugitive suspect.
