Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Adviser on Commerce, Salman F. Rahman, has been placed on a three-day remand in connection with a murder case filed under Dhaka’s Jatrabari police station. The order was passed today by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Saifuzzaman following a hearing.

Earlier, Sub-Inspector Mozahidul Islam, the case’s investigating officer, produced Rahman before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for further investigation. During the hearing, Public Prosecutor Omar Faruqi represented the state and argued in favor of the remand, while the defense requested bail and dismissal of the remand petition. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and approved a three-day remand.

The case stems from an incident during an anti-discrimination movement on July 21 in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka. Allegedly, police and ruling party activists opened fire indiscriminately on a protest march of students and civilians, resulting in the death of Mohammad Amin on the spot.

The victim’s father subsequently filed a murder case at Jatrabari police station, naming 99 individuals and accusing an additional 100-150 unidentified persons.
