An office assistant named A N M Muddacherul Haque recently retired from the Banshkhali Upazila Family Planning Office in Chattogram. While trying to complete official paperwork to receive his pension benefits, he was allegedly asked to pay Tk 90,000 by Shah Alam, an office assistant working at the same office.

Initially, Muddacherul Haque paid part of the money through a bank cheque. However, Shah Alam later demanded an additional Tk 20,000. When he attempted to collect this amount, officials of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) caught him red-handed.

The ACC conducted the operation on Wednesday morning at the Banshkhali Upazila Family Planning Office. This operation was carried out following a formal complaint filed by the retired employee regarding the bribery demand.

Confirming the incident, ACC Chattogram Deputy Director Riyaz Uddin said Shah Alam had repeatedly pressured the complainant for money in exchange for processing official documents. During the raid, the accused was detained along with the cash recovered from his office drawer. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
