July Uprising: From History to the Silver Screen

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has selected eight filmmakers to conduct workshops and create mid-length films under the “Remembering Monsoon Revolution” initiative, covering all eight divisions of Bangladesh. The announcement was made during a press conference at the ministry’s office, with Sumon Rahman, a member of the search committee, revealing the names of the chosen directors: Anam Biswas, Humaira Bilkis, Nuhash Humayun, Shankha Dasgupta, Shaheen Dill Riaz, Rabiul Alam Robi, Tasmiah Afrin Mou, and Md. Tauqir Islam.
The initiative aims to connect young talents across the country with the filmmaking process and provide them opportunities to develop their skills. Selected directors will oversee workshops in their respective divisions, training participants to create eight films by June 2025. The workshops will not impose creative constraints, encouraging participants to explore their unique styles and produce impactful works. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, an advisor to the ministry, emphasized the importance of fostering innovative and engaging cinema.
The government will fully fund the initiative, with budgets determined collaboratively by directors and the search committee. Application forms for the workshops will be made available online, and directors will select participants based on submissions.
