A major salary revision for Bangladesh government employees appears to be in its final stages, with officials indicating that an announcement could come at any time.

According to the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, the proposed 9th National Pay Scale is currently under final review and remains a government priority. The administration is reportedly committed to implementing the new structure once the approval process is completed.

Sources familiar with discussions say the review committee has recommended a significant increase in basic salaries across government service grades. While exact rates may vary between grades, some categories could see salary adjustments of up to 100% in basic pay.

A phased implementation model is also being considered:

Phase 1: Increase in basic salary
Phase 2: Adjustment of housing and other allowances

Final decisions, however, will depend on cabinet approval.

Bangladesh’s last comprehensive pay scale was introduced in 2015. Although annual increments have continued, no new national pay structure has been implemented since then.

Following the formation of the current government, several committees reviewed recommendations submitted by the National Pay Commission, Judicial Service Pay Commission, and Armed Forces Pay Committee before preparing a final proposal.

The government has already allocated a substantial amount for salaries, allowances, pensions, and related benefits in the current fiscal year, indicating preparations for major expenditure in the public sector.

The proposal is expected to move through the final approval process soon. If cleared, millions of government employees, pensioners, and their families could see significant changes in their income structure.
