Interim Government Gears Up for Local and National Elections

Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has announced preparations for both the national parliamentary and local government elections. During a meeting with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Nicola Beer on Wednesday, January 8, he shared the government’s plans for the upcoming general elections and local polls. Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of ensuring that local governance truly remains localized and effective.

 

Vice President Beer assured support for the government’s key reforms, including anti-corruption measures, energy transitions, and the preservation of the Sundarbans mangrove forest and its surrounding waterways. Dr. Yunus sought the EIB’s assistance in implementing broader plans for these areas, as well as for developing facilities at Chattogram Port to benefit communities in eastern Bangladesh and improving water management in the northern regions.
