A group of 47 Bangladeshi expatriates returned home from war-torn Lebanon, arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:15 PM on Friday. According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the repatriation was facilitated through collaboration among the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The IOM provided each returnee with BDT 5,000 in pocket money, some food supplies, and basic medical assistance. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the returnees at the airport. To date, one Bangladeshi has been reported killed in the ongoing unrest in Lebanon, and a total of 1,246 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated across 19 flights.
The government has pledged to cover the costs for all Bangladeshi expatriates in Lebanon who wish to return. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut is ensuring the safe return of those willing to leave and providing necessary security arrangements for those opting to stay.
