Following the fall of the Awami League government, demands arose for reforms within the police force, including changes to their uniforms. Ultimately, the decision to update the uniforms of the police, RAB, and Ansar forces was finalized during a meeting of the Home Ministry’s advisory committee on law and order, held on Monday at the Secretariat.

During the meeting, representatives from the police, RAB, and Ansar entered wearing 18 proposed uniform designs. From these, the final selections were made. It was decided that the uniform worn by the woman on the left would be adopted for the police, the one worn by the person in the center would be used by the RAB, and the uniform on the right would represent the Ansar.

Earlier, on August 11, former Interim Government Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain had announced plans to overhaul the police uniform and logo. He stated, “The police uniform and logo will be entirely redesigned. Many officers are demoralized and unwilling to work in the current attire. These changes will be implemented soon following cabinet discussions.”

He also emphasized the need for a police commission to manage the force independently, ensuring it is not used as a political tool. He remarked, “The police must operate under a commission and not be influenced by any political party.”

Notably, following the government’s fall, the police force was absent from public view for seven days. The interim government then initiated reforms to restore functionality, including the uniform changes. Many officers had expressed discomfort in performing their duties in the existing uniforms and even announced work abstentions to press their demands.
