We want to stay away from political influence – CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin stated that the commission aims to remain neutral and avoid any political involvement or favoritism toward any party. He urged for cooperation in maintaining this neutrality.
Speaking at the annual general meeting and award ceremony of the Reporters’ Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) on Sunday, February 9, he emphasized the importance of embracing differing opinions, noting that disagreement does not necessarily mean opposition. He acknowledged criticism as an opportunity for self-improvement.
Nasir Uddin also warned against blindly applauding everything without critical assessment, stating that such a mindset has negatively impacted the country. He stressed the need to approach matters realistically rather than engaging in uncritical approval.
The CEC identified political influence over the Election Commission as a major issue in the past and emphasized the necessity of eliminating such interference to restore public trust in the electoral process.
The event, held at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, was attended by Election Commissioners Abdur Rahman, Begum Tahmida Ahmed, Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Abul Fazl Md. Sanaullah, and EC Secretary Akhter Ahmed.
