The Election Commission (EC) has formed four new committees, each led by one of the four election commissioners, to ensure the smooth completion of all election-related tasks.
On Friday, December 6, the EC provided this information, following the issuance of four separate notifications the previous day. These committees were established during the commission’s first meeting, held under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin on Monday, in accordance with sub-rule 2 of rule 3 under the Election Commission Rules, 2010.
One committee, titled the “Law and Regulation Reform Committee,” is chaired by Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machood. This eight-member committee is tasked with reviewing existing electoral laws and other regulations of the EC Secretariat to ensure consistency with the Constitution and providing recommendations for necessary amendments.
Another committee, comprising nine members, is headed by Election Commissioner Begum Tahmida Ahmed. It focuses on recruitment, promotions, administrative reforms, restructuring, and skill development.
Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar leads a six-member committee overseeing tasks such as delimitation of constituencies, political party registration, preparations for national and local elections, establishing polling stations, preparing and monitoring panels of election officials, and engaging with stakeholders.
The fourth committee, chaired by Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah, consists of 10 members and focuses on matters related to the national ID system, voter lists, and the application of information technology in election management.
Earlier, on November 24, CEC A.M.M. Nasir Uddin and the four commissioners were sworn into office.
