A new student organization, Bangladesh Democratic Student Parliament, has been launched by former coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The announcement was made today, Wednesday, at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen, Dhaka University (DU).

The central committee is led by Abu Bakar Mojumdar as the convener and Zahid Ahsan as the member secretary. Other key positions include Touhid Mohammad Siam and Rifat Rashid as senior joint conveners and joint member secretaries, respectively, while Tahmid Al Mudassir has been appointed as the chief organizer and Ashrefa Khatun as the spokesperson.

Additionally, the Dhaka University (DU) committee was also announced. Abdul Kader and Mohir Alam were appointed as convener and member secretary, respectively. Other key roles in the DU unit include Limon Mahmud Hasan as senior joint convener, Al Amin Sarkar as senior joint member secretary, Hasib Al Islam as chief organizer, and Rafia Rehnuma Hridi as the spokesperson.

The former coordinators emphasized that their organization’s guiding principles would be “Students First” and “Bangladesh First,” working toward student and civic interests without serving any political party’s agenda. Leadership within the organization will be elected through a democratic process.

However, the event faced disruptions from disgruntled former members who protested against the new formation. A scuffle broke out, delaying the program. Around 4 PM, a group of private university students arrived from Uttara and started chanting slogans such as “Private-Private, No Discrimination”, “Break the DU Syndicate”, and “Down with DU’s Black Hand”. Meanwhile, the newly formed organization’s members countered with slogans like “Education, Unity, Liberation”.
