A new student organization, Bangladesh Democratic Student Council, has announced its central full committee. The names of the newly appointed Convener, Member Secretary, Joint Conveners, and Joint Member Secretaries were revealed at a press conference held in front of the Madhu’s Cantine at Dhaka University at 4:30 PM today. The announcement was made by the organization’s Convener, Abu Bakar Majumder, while the names of other appointed members were disclosed by the Chief Organizer, Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury.

Students from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University, Comilla University, North South University, BU, ULAB, National University, Seven Colleges, and various madrasas have secured positions in the committee.

The press conference was also attended by the organization’s Member Secretary, Mahir Alam, Spokesperson Ashrefa Khatun, Convener of the Dhaka University Democratic Student Council, Abdul Kader, and Member Secretary Al Amin Sorkar.

During the press conference, Convener Abu Bakar Majumder shared that the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council was formed yesterday as a student organization born out of the July uprising’s strength. He mentioned that the organization had been actively working in various universities, including Dhaka University, and engaging with students to exchange opinions and gather feedback.

He emphasized that unlike other student organizations in the country that follow political loyalty, the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council would remain free from such political allegiance. The organization would select leaders through democratic means, with no age-based debates, noting that the age of the central committee president would be capped at 28 years.

Bakar further mentioned that students entering universities would have the opportunity to come into leadership positions within seven years. Additionally, the organization would establish a comfort zone for women and prioritize safety measures, with a firm commitment to female security.

He concluded by stating that a unit-based committee would be formed, with a full committee being announced later through a council. This process would take nearly six months to complete across the country. He also apologized for any unintended disruptions during the organization’s announcement event yesterday.
