International Airlines’ Interest Grows with the Opening of the Third Terminal

The third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is set to open by the end of this year, aiming to boost its capacity from 8 million to 12 million passengers annually. This expansion is expected to increase flight operations and attract more international airlines to operate in Bangladesh. Several airlines, including Ethiopian Airlines, have already shown interest, with some requesting additional flight frequencies. Fly Jinnah, a private Pakistani airline, has been granted approval to operate on the long-closed Dhaka-Karachi route, which will soon be reopened after seven years. The new terminal will feature modern facilities, including 24 boarding bridges, 115 check-in counters, automated passport control systems, and ample parking. The terminal will also have VIP spaces and improved connectivity with metro and elevated expressways. Construction of the terminal began in December 2019 and received approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in October 2017.
