Myanmar Returns 56 Bangladeshi Fishermen After 10 Hours

Fifty-six Bangladeshi fishermen, along with six fishing trawlers, were detained by the Myanmar Navy while fishing in the sea near Saint Martin Island in Teknaf. The fishermen were released after 10 hours, with all their food supplies, fish, and fishing nets taken by the Myanmar authorities. The release was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ashikur Rahman, the commanding officer of the Teknaf-2 Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on Thursday morning. The fishermen were taken 10-15 kilometers south of Saint Martin Island in the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday afternoon, after which their whereabouts were unknown. The owners of the trawlers, including Mohammad Bashir Ahmed, Mohammad Amin, Nurul Amin, Abdur Rahim, and Mohammad Shafik from the Shahpari Island area of Subrang Union, reported the incident. Two of the trawlers belonged to Mohammad Shafik.
