An eight-year-old girl from Magura, who was a victim of rape, has been transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for advanced medical treatment. On Saturday at 5 PM, a cardiac ambulance transported her from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). DMCH’s deputy director, Ashraful Alam, told reporters that the transfer was arranged following recommendations from the medical board and directives from Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid, ensuring a medical team accompanied the child.

The incident occurred last Wednesday when the girl visited her sister’s home and was allegedly raped late at night. Initially, she was admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital, but as her condition worsened, she was moved to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. With no improvement, she was later transferred to DMCH in an unconscious state on Thursday night. As her condition deteriorated further, she was placed on life support Friday night.

According to the victim’s elder sister, she, her husband, and the child were sleeping in the same room that night. Before dawn, she woke up to find her sister shivering and crying on the floor, initially assuming it was due to cold. The child, too scared to speak at the time, later revealed the details in the morning.

The sister accused her father-in-law of taking the girl to another room and raping her, while her husband unlocked the door, and her mother-in-law was aware of the crime. When the child attempted to speak out, she was threatened and physically assaulted before being returned to her sister’s room.

The victim’s sister further stated that when she informed her husband and mother-in-law in the morning, they tried to suppress the incident and assaulted her. As neighbors became aware and the child’s condition worsened, her mother-in-law eventually took her to the hospital and informed their father of the child’s illness.

She also revealed that her father-in-law had sexually harassed her two months after her marriage, which took place four months ago. When she told her husband, he refused to believe her. She had also informed her family but chose to remain silent at the time due to social stigma.
