The government has initiated an urgent recruitment process to appoint 2,000 doctors through a special BCS examination. A letter regarding this has been sent to the Ministry of Public Administration, as stated by Professor Dr. Mohammad Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He made this announcement during a press conference at the Ministry of Health on Thursday.

He further mentioned that a committee has been formed under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to revise the medical course curriculum. The committee has already held a meeting and is in the process of gathering opinions from all relevant stakeholders to formulate a scientifically sound, locally suitable, and widely accepted curriculum. Based on this, they will prepare a formal proposal.

Dr. Sayedur Rahman also addressed the issue of doctor recruitment, stating that a significant number of doctors need to be appointed. He highlighted that recruitment processes are already underway through the 45th, 46th, and 47th BCS exams, through which 450, 1,682, and 1,331 doctors, respectively, are being appointed. However, due to a shortage of doctors in remote areas, a request has been sent for the emergency recruitment of 2,000 doctors through a special BCS.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Ministry of Health had previously sent a request to the Ministry of Public Administration to extend the age limit for BCS medical applicants, which was not approved. On March 5, the ministry resubmitted a formal request, proposing that the maximum age for doctors to sit for the BCS exam be extended to 34 years.
