The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has issued 16 directives to ensure emergency healthcare services in hospitals during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. This was announced in an official order on Tuesday.

The directives include ensuring the presence of doctors in emergency departments at all times, deploying additional doctors if necessary, and keeping emergency departments, labor rooms, emergency OT, and laboratories operational 24/7. To maintain adequate staffing and medical services, leave for healthcare workers may be granted in phases before and after Eid. Institutional heads will approve leave while prioritizing uninterrupted emergency medical services. Civil surgeons and divisional directors may coordinate essential staff within their districts during the Eid holidays. Additionally, unit heads in inpatient departments must supervise their respective divisions daily.

Medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district hospitals, and upazila health complexes must keep emergency laboratories and X-ray services operational at all times. Specialist doctors must be available on-call at the upazila level. Before the holiday begins, hospitals must stock sufficient medicine, IV fluids, chemical reagents, and surgical supplies, with an assigned staff member ensuring immediate supply availability.

Ambulance services must remain operational 24/7, and local authorities and law enforcement agencies must be notified in advance for hospital security. Fire safety measures should be implemented in all healthcare facilities. Institutional heads and department heads must maintain regular communication with on-duty staff during the holidays and exchange greetings on Eid day. If the head of an institution takes leave, they must officially delegate responsibilities to another officer, ensuring that the designated officer performs all duties properly. The name and contact number of the responsible officer must be reported to higher authorities. Additionally, hospital heads must oversee the provision of quality meals to patients on Eid day and personally extend greetings to them.

Outpatient departments must not remain closed for more than 72 consecutive hours, with institutional heads making necessary arrangements accordingly. All private clinics and hospitals must keep their emergency and maternity services operational under registered doctors.

Before referring any patient, primary treatment and necessary travel care must be ensured. Hospitals must also assist in providing ambulances for referred patients and immediately notify the DGHS control room of any disasters or unforeseen incidents.
