DU students march at midnight demanding Awami League’s ban

In the early hours of March 21, a group of general students from Dhaka University (DU) staged a protest march demanding a ban on the Awami League. The demonstration began at around 1:45 AM in the university’s residential hall area, proceeded through various campus streets, and concluded with a brief rally at the Raju Sculpture after passing by the Vice-Chancellor’s residence.
During the rally, the protesters announced another demonstration at 3 PM on Friday at the Raju Sculpture, reiterating their demands for banning the Awami League and prosecuting those responsible for the alleged mass killings. The students chanted slogans such as “We won’t just stand by, we will resist,” “Ban Awami League, it must be banned,” “Spread the word across Bangladesh, bury Awami League,” and “We will strip Awami League of its power.”
The protesters expressed their frustration, stating that the interim government had not taken any steps to ban the Awami League despite its involvement in the alleged mass killings of protesting students in July. They also condemned the chief advisor’s remarks suggesting that the interim administration had no plans to ban the party.
