The sudden onset of winter has gripped the capital city, bringing dense fog and chilly winds. Many districts across the country are experiencing bone-chilling cold, with the sun remaining obscured due to heavy fog. The Meteorological Department predicts that the cold will intensify over the next four days.
On Thursday morning at 8 a.m., Dhaka remained shrouded in fog, with no sign of the sun. The biting cold left residents, especially those with low incomes, struggling to stay warm. Many sought refuge in tea stalls or warmed themselves by fires. The sudden drop in temperature has caught many off guard, with the seasonal wind patterns amplifying the cold sensation.
The air’s humidity level has surged, causing the fog to linger until late morning in various parts of the city. The Meteorological Department has forecast that this trend will continue for four to five days, potentially leading to a mild cold wave by the weekend.
According to meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana, the chill is expected to worsen. By Saturday or Sunday, a mild cold wave may sweep across the country, while Dhaka and northern regions will remain blanketed in fog due to high humidity levels.
Thursday morning saw Dhaka’s temperature drop to 14.5 degrees Celsius, with 93% humidity recorded. The lowest temperature in the country was noted at Darshana in Chuadanga, where it fell to 10.2 degrees Celsius.
