On the occasion of Independence and National Day on March 26, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized the eternal significance of this day in the nation’s history. In his message on Wednesday, he stated that March 26, 2025, holds immense importance, marking the day in 1971 when the people of Bangladesh united to break free from the chains of oppression and launched an armed struggle against the Pakistani forces.
He highlighted that after nine months of a bloody war, Bangladesh emerged victorious and secured its place on the world map as an independent nation. For this reason, March 26 will always remain a source of pride and inspiration for the country. He paid deep tribute to the fearless martyrs whose sacrifices paved the way for independence and also remembered the army personnel who laid down their lives, not only during the Liberation War but also in service to the nation both at home and abroad. He prayed for the departed souls and expressed sympathy for their families.
Describing the Bangladesh Army as a symbol of national pride and trust, he affirmed the unwavering commitment of every soldier to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and independence. Beyond defense, the army plays a vital role in countering terrorism in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, maintaining law and order, responding to national disasters, contributing to infrastructure development, and engaging in humanitarian missions. He expressed confidence that the army would continue its exceptional contributions in the future.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman stated that over time, the Bangladesh Army has transformed into a disciplined and well-organized force, emphasizing the need for modernization and military capability enhancement to meet national security demands. He stressed that the army is being modernized through strategic integration of advanced weaponry and enhanced training to confront 21st-century challenges. He expressed strong confidence that the members of the Bangladesh Army would continue to uphold professionalism and dedicate themselves to the service of the country and its people.
