A 58-day nationwide fishing ban in the Bay of Bengal has come into effect starting today, Tuesday, and will continue until June 11. During this period, the government has prohibited the catching of all fish species across the country’s maritime territory.

According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, under the authority granted by the Marine Fisheries Rules 2023 (Rule 3, Sub-rule 1, Clause a), the government has enforced the annual ban to ensure proper breeding, conservation, and sustainable harvesting of marine fish resources.

Throughout the ban, patrols will be carried out by a joint task force comprising the Coast Guard, Navy, and Fisheries Department to ensure compliance.
