Next Election Set to Be the Best Since Independence: Dr. Yunus

Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed confidence that the upcoming national election will be free, fair, and inclusive. He described the forthcoming polls as potentially the most exemplary in the country’s history, calling it a milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
Dr. Yunus made the remarks during a meeting on Saturday, April 19, at the State Guest House Jamuna with a delegation from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL). The team included Executive Director Briza Rosales, Democracy and Elections Program Advisor May Butoy, Senior Program Officer Tharindu Aberatna, Program Officer Ayan Rahman Khan, and Program Associate Afsana Amei.
ANFREL, a regional civil society network focused on election observation and democratic development across Asia for over two decades, shared details of their ongoing initiatives in Bangladesh. The delegation emphasized their commitment to rebuilding an independent, citizen-led election monitoring framework in the country.
They also discussed their stakeholder mapping and needs assessment efforts, aimed at enhancing civil society involvement and promoting greater transparency in the electoral process. The delegation thanked the Chief Advisor for the meeting and reaffirmed their intent to continue working with relevant stakeholders in Bangladesh to support credible and transparent elections.
