False Cases Against hefazot Islamic leaders Under Review for Withdrawal: Asif Nazrul

Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor on Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (April 23) that leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam recently approached him with a list of cases, requesting withdrawal of those they believe to be politically motivated. He mentioned that steps are being taken to drop such cases.
He stated that under the rule of the Hasina government, which he described as anti-Islamic, religious scholars and clerics faced various forms of harassment, including being targeted with false cases.
Referring to Shafiur Rahman Farabi — convicted in the blogger Avijit Roy murder case — Dr. Nazrul said that Hefazat leaders also asked for assistance in his matter, which is currently pending before the higher court. He confirmed that the Attorney General’s office has been asked to ensure justice is upheld.
Dr. Nazrul concluded with a request for prayers so that he may continue to work for the oppressed.
