On Friday, April 25, following the Jummah prayers, leaders of the Khelafat Majlish staged a protest in front of Baitul Mukarram Mosque’s north gate, voicing strong opposition to the newly formed Women’s Law Reform Commission. Addressing the gathering, Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Dr. Ahmad Abdul Quader accused the commission of being composed of “leftover atheists and Western agents” whose agenda, he claimed, is to undermine the religious and family values of Bangladesh.

He further criticized the commission’s proposal to introduce a uniform family law for women across all religions, covering marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance. Dr. Quader denounced this as a blatant attack on Islamic teachings, stating that such measures violate the Quran and Sunnah, and disregard the beliefs of the Muslim majority in the country. He also condemned the proposal to legally recognize sex work as a profession, calling it a dangerous move aimed at promoting immorality and social decay, which, he asserted, no religious citizen would accept.

The protest procession, led by Khelafat Majlish activists, moved from Baitul Mukarram to the Paltan intersection and concluded at the mosque’s north gate. During a brief speech after the prayer, leaders also urged the interim government to take diplomatic action against what they termed as Indian aggression. The gathering demanded that the proposed report by the Women’s Reform Commission be scrapped and that any anti-Islamic recommendations be immediately halted.
