A protest rally was held at the base of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University, organized by anti-fascist student activists, demanding the removal of Dr. Emdad Ullah Miyan, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, along with other so-called ‘fascist’ bureaucrats. The demonstrators issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government during the rally, which took place on Sunday morning (February 16).
Speakers at the protest alleged that although the Awami League might flee to India, bureaucrats in the Secretariat are still engaged in various anti-state conspiracies. They claimed that while initiatives are being taken to reform different sectors of the government, loyal bureaucrats of Sheikh Hasina within the Secretariat are obstructing those efforts. They emphasized the urgent need to remove this bureaucratic clique in order to ensure the liberation of the nation and its people.
Coordinator Nazrul Islam Tuhin alleged that Dr. Emdad Ullah Miyan and several other bureaucrats close to the authoritarian regime are involved in bribery, appointment trading, and corruption, thereby acting against national interests. He specifically accused them of misconduct in key sectors, including projects partnered with the World Bank, in an attempt to discredit the government. Tuhin also claimed that the secretary was involved in appointing individuals linked to the BNP and in money laundering conspiracies.
He further stated that Md. Saiful Amal, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, led a counter-protest against student demonstrators just a day before the fall of the fascist government. Yet, no action has been taken against him. Protesters claimed these officials are now engaged in conspiracies against the vision of a new Bangladesh.
