The Malaysian government has announced the launch of a new initiative called Migrant Repatriation Program 2.0, allowing undocumented immigrants to voluntarily return to their home countries without facing legal action. The program will run from May 19 this year until April 30, 2026.
The announcement was made on Friday, May 16, during the Immigration Department’s 2024 Excellent Service Awards ceremony at De Seri Endon Hall in Putrajaya’s Puspanitapuri, where Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged foreign representatives, employers, and communities to widely disseminate the information and encourage early participation to avoid last-minute congestion.
Under this amnesty program, undocumented migrants will only be required to pay minimal fines to exit the country. A fine of RM 500 will be imposed on those who overstayed their visa or entered Malaysia without valid documents. For violations of work permit conditions, an additional RM 300 will be charged. Moreover, applicants must pay RM 20 for a special pass per issue. Children under 18 who overstayed or were brought into Malaysia without valid passes will be exempted from fines but must still pay the special pass fee.
The Home Minister emphasized that while the government is offering this window for voluntary repatriation, it remains committed to strict enforcement of immigration laws to uphold national security and order.
