The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the interim government is considering changing the national flag of Bangladesh. In an official statement, the Press Wing labeled these allegations as completely baseless.

According to a verified Facebook post by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing, false information has been widely spread across various websites and social platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the interim government plans to modify the national flag by incorporating Islamic symbols like the crescent and star, allegedly to reflect closer ties with Pakistan and Turkey. Notably, among those who reportedly helped spread this rumor is Sajib Wazed Joy, son of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with numerous social media users.

The Press Wing pointed out that a digitally manipulated image of a fictional flag has gone viral, garnering nearly one million views, particularly attracting attention from audiences in Pakistan, Turkey, and the Middle East. However, as of Saturday (June 14), no credible Bangladeshi media outlet has published any reports supporting this claim or indicating that such discussions are taking place.

Officials further clarified that this misinformation campaign appears to have been deliberately crafted to provoke identity-based tensions among conservative audiences by using religious symbols. The fact that the image was generated with AI further proves that the claims lack any factual basis.

Fact-checking platforms, including ‘The Descent,’ reported that the source of the rumor was a fabricated article allegedly shared by Sajib Wazed Joy, titled “Bangladesh Considering Adding Islamic Crescent to Its Flag in Line with Pakistan and Turkey,” falsely attributed to a writer named Robert Brown and supposedly published on June 6. The article contained no credible sources, evidence, or verifiable references.

The Press Wing strongly urged social media users to verify information before sharing it, especially regarding such sensitive national issues.
