The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reiterated its warning against any unlawful assemblies near the official residence of the Chief Advisor, “Jamuna,” to prevent any deterioration of law and order in the area.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, July 8, the DMP announced that starting from July 9, all types of public gatherings—including protests, rallies, sit-ins, human chains, and processions—are prohibited in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat and the surrounding areas of the Chief Advisor’s residence. This includes the area between the Hotel Intercontinental Crossing, Kakrail Mosque Crossing, Officers’ Club Crossing, and Minto Road Crossing.
Signed by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar, the notice cited authority under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III of 1976), stating that the restrictions will remain in place until further notice in order to maintain public order and ensure the Chief Advisor’s security.
This move comes in the wake of recent protests, including a demonstration by BCS job aspirants. On Monday, July 7, dismissed members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) attempted to stage a sit-in near the Jamuna residence demanding the fulfillment of three key demands. Police intervened and dispersed the group from the area.
