Amid the Election Commission’s decision to exclude the ‘Shapla’ (water lily) symbol from the official list of electoral icons, the National Citizen Party (NCP) held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin. On Sunday morning (July 13) at around 10:30 AM, a five-member NCP delegation arrived at the Election Commission headquarters. The delegation included NCP’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, southern region coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, and northern region coordinator Sarjis Alam.
Earlier, the Election Commission had approved a revised list of 115 election symbols, excluding ‘Shapla,’ and forwarded it to the Ministry of Law for vetting. The NCP had submitted its application for official party registration on June 22, requesting one of three symbols: the shapla, a mobile phone, or a pen. Notably, Citizen Unity, led by Mahmudur Rahman, had also applied for the shapla symbol earlier on April 17. Both parties have held several discussions with the EC regarding their preference for this symbol.
