A series of recurring technical malfunctions in Boeing aircraft operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines has raised growing concerns about passenger safety and trust. These issues have included flight cancellations, delays, windshield cracks, detached wheels, and landing gear malfunctions—some even occurring while on the runway. Despite global concerns following a major Boeing 787-related incident in Ahmedabad, India, no post-incident directives have yet been issued to Bangladesh authorities.
Over the past year, such problems have become increasingly frequent across Biman’s fleet, particularly among its Boeing-manufactured aircraft. Biman currently operates 21 aircraft, of which 16—including six from the 787 series—are Boeing models.
ATM Nazrul Islam, adviser at United College of Aviation, warned that even minor unresolved technical issues could lead to catastrophic failures. He emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing pilot log sheet notes after each flight. Meanwhile, former Biman director Nafiz Imtiaz Uddin pointed to the engineering division’s lack of accountability, stating that despite regular monitoring by both manufacturers and airlines, there has been no precedent for penalizing negligence within the organization.
