DU Student Dies After Fall from Jagannath Hall Building

A student of Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall, Sanjay Baraik (28), tragically died after falling from a building within the hall premises. Sanjay was a student of the Anthropology department, enrolled in the 2020–21 academic year.
The incident occurred early Monday morning (July 14), and his death was later confirmed by Assistant In-Charge Md. Masud of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, citing doctors’ reports.
University staff rushed him to the hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. According to initial information received from university personnel, he had fallen from the building.
Jagannath Hall employee Manik Kumar Das stated that a night guard called him at dawn to report that a student was found lying beside the road inside the hall premises. He, along with others, immediately took the injured student to the hospital, but he could not be saved.
Later, CCTV footage from the hall reportedly showed the student falling from the building. However, it remains unclear whether he jumped or fell accidentally.
Sanjay was originally from the Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
