A schoolteacher, identified as Fazlu Pramanik (48), was locked inside a classroom by enraged residents in Rajbari’s Pangsha upazila after being accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a ninth-grade female student. During the incident, a motorcycle was set ablaze by protesters.

The incident took place around 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, at Bagduli High School in the Maurat Union area. According to police, the student’s family has not yet filed any formal complaint.

Hundreds of students and local residents gathered at the school premises, chanting slogans demanding the teacher’s dismissal and legal punishment.

Local sources allege that Fazlul Haque, the accused teacher, has for years been using his private coaching center as a cover for forming illicit relationships with female students. On Wednesday morning, he was reportedly caught in compromising circumstances with the ninth-grader at the coaching center. A student who witnessed the incident spread the news among classmates, and soon the entire school and surrounding community became aware.

By midday, tensions had escalated. Protesters forced open the school’s main gate and stormed inside. Police from Pangsha Model Police Station arrived to calm the situation and took the teacher into custody. After officers left the scene, the crowd torched the teacher’s motorcycle.

Badhan Mondal, a tenth-grade student, claimed, “Sir Fazlu is the son of the local union chairman and has controlled this school for years. He takes advantage of his position to exploit students. A teacher like him should not remain in this school, and we demand his resignation.”

Acting headteacher A. Khalek said he had long heard allegations of Fazlul Haque’s misconduct under the guise of coaching activities. “On Wednesday, students, guardians, and locals began protesting, breaking the main gate and glass windows. The police had to intervene to remove the teacher from the scene. I have informed the school’s governing body president, who is the upazila cooperative officer. A meeting will be held to decide the next steps,” he stated.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Salauddin of Pangsha Model Police Station confirmed the incident, saying, “We brought the teacher to the station to prevent further unrest. No formal complaint has been lodged yet. If one is filed, legal action will follow.”
