Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) staged a blockade at Agargaon on Thursday to press home their three-point demand under the banner of the Agriculturists Unity Council.

The program began around 11:45 AM and was withdrawn just before 1:00 PM. Earlier on Wednesday night, the students had reached the decision to enforce the blockade after a round of discussions. Prior to the protest, they also brought out a procession condemning the recent attack on engineering students.

The three major demands include:

1. Ensuring that the 10th grade government positions — such as Sub-Assistant Agricultural Officer, Sub-Assistant Scientific Officer, and equivalent posts under the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and other research bodies — remain exclusively open to agriculturists.

2. Abolishing quotas under BADC and keeping promotion to the 9th grade reserved only for those who have passed competitive recruitment exams.

3. Issuing a government directive prohibiting anyone without a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or agriculture-related fields from using the professional title “Krishibid” (Agriculturist).
