The first meeting of the full executive committee of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) was held following the recent elections. During the session, the committee finalized plans outlining the roles of representatives for the coming year. The names of the five students who will serve as senate members were also announced.
“It’s not about individual victory; DUCSU has been won by all of us,” said newly elected DUCSU Vice President Sadik Qayem.
The meeting took place on Sunday, September 14, in the office of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University. Newly elected Vice President Sadik Qayem and General Secretary SM Farhad, along with other members of the executive committee, attended the session.
After the meeting, Sadik Qayem told reporters that, similar to the election campaign, the committee will continue visiting students door-to-door. He added, “We did door-to-door visits even before the elections. We will continue reaching out to students in the same way.”
General Secretary SM Farhad said the committee will work for all students, regardless of their political alignment, and ensure their voices are heard. He also mentioned that within a short time, a one-year executive plan will be prepared for all members. Regarding the senate, five members will be sent as syndicate representatives, and discussions will also be held on who will serve as DUCSU Treasurer. These decisions will be published in gazette format.
The DUCSU and hall union elections were held on September 9. A total of 471 candidates contested 28 DUCSU positions, while the hall unions had 234 posts contested by 1,035 candidates.
Candidates supported by the student wing coalition won 23 DUCSU positions, including Vice President, General Secretary, and Assistant General Secretary. Three positions were won by independent candidates: Musaddiq Ali Ibn-e-Mohammad as Literature & Culture Secretary, Sanjida Ahmed Tanvi as Research & Publication Secretary, and Md. Jubair Bin Neshari (Abu Jubayer) as Social Service Secretary. Additionally, Hema Chakma and Ummu Uswatun Rafia were elected as members.
