A court today found former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina guilty and sentenced her to seven years in prison, while her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, received a five-year sentence in a case concerning alleged irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in the Rajuk New Town Project in Purbachal.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5. Both Hasina and Joy were tried in absentia, as they have not yet been taken into custody.

In addition to the prison sentences, Joy—who previously served as his mother’s adviser on information and communication technology—was fined Tk 1 lakh.

The court had scheduled the judgment for today, November 28, after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense on November 23.

The case was originally filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan, naming 15 individuals including Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy; the charge sheet was later expanded to include 17 accused.

Charges were formally framed on July 31, 2025, and arrest warrants were issued for all accused.
