Authorities have taken three additional suspects into custody in connection with the fatal attack on journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, who was killed with sharp weapons in Gazipur’s Chandna Chowrasta area on Thursday night.

The arrests were made late Friday during raids across various locations in the city, bringing the total number of people held in the case to seven.

The newly detained are Faisal Hasan, 23, from Panchbaria in Chatmohar, Pabna; Shah Jamal, 32; and Suman, 26 — both from Kashipur in Homna, Cumilla.

Earlier, police apprehended four others, including a married couple: Mizanur Rahman (also known as Ketu Mizan), his wife Golapi, Al Amin, and Md Swadhin. Investigators said three of them, identified through CCTV footage, are members of a mugging group.

Tuhin, 39, was a staff reporter for the daily Protidiner Kagoj in Gazipur and lived in Bhatipara village, Phulbaria, Mymensingh.

Police reports indicate that around 8:30 pm on Thursday, a group of five to six armed men chased Tuhin through the Chandna Chowrasta area. He tried to hide inside a tea stall at Eidgah Market, but the attackers followed him in and repeatedly struck him before fleeing.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop aided a joint operation by the Detective Branch, Rapid Action Battalion, and Police Bureau of Investigation, leading to the seven arrests.

Taherul Haque Chowhan, additional commissioner (crime) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, confirmed the latest arrests, noting that investigations are ongoing.

On Friday morning, the victim’s elder brother, Selim, filed a murder case against unidentified perpetrators.
