The widow of Gazipur journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin has alleged that her husband’s killing was orchestrated by hired assassins.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Gazipur Press Club on Tuesday, she urged authorities to arrest not only the attackers but also those who ordered and financed the crime.

“My husband was murdered by hired killers. Those who funded and instigated the attack must also be brought to justice swiftly,” she said, without providing further evidence.

Mukta, Tuhin’s wife, expressed gratitude to journalists for helping uncover details of the case, including the release of CCTV footage of the murder. She warned that without media scrutiny, vital evidence might have been lost, similar to the unresolved 2012 Sagar-Runi case, in which a journalist couple was killed in Dhaka.

She also requested urgent meetings with the interim government’s law and home affairs advisors, as well as the police chief.

In a written statement, Mukta outlined seven demands, including the immediate arrest of all suspects, a speedy trial, protection for witnesses, and government support for Tuhin’s children. She additionally called for nationwide measures to ensure journalists’ safety, including a dedicated hotline.

Tuhin, 38, a reporter for Dainik Protidiner Kagoj in Gazipur, was attacked in broad daylight on August 7 at Chandona Chowrasta, where he was hacked and had his throat slit. Police have so far arrested eight individuals in connection with the murder.
