Morning fog in Dhaka on Sunday was lighter than on Saturday. The capital briefly saw sunshine around midday yesterday, and sunlight appeared earlier today as well. Despite this, Dhaka experienced a slight drop in temperature.

Meteorologists say cold conditions may intensify somewhat in Dhaka and other parts of the country. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the lowest temperature recorded this morning was 9.5°C in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

On Saturday, the country’s minimum temperature was 9°C in three locations—Badalgachhi in Naogaon, Pabna, and Rajshahi. Compared to that, today’s nationwide lowest temperature has risen slightly. However, Dhaka’s temperature declined marginally, with the capital recording a minimum of 12.3°C this morning, down from 12.5°C yesterday.

The weather office said similar conditions may persist for the next couple of days. Without rainfall, fog is unlikely to clear completely, though today’s sunshine in Dhaka may last longer than yesterday.

Meteorologist Md Abul Kalam Mallik said the cold has intensified slightly in the capital compared to the previous day, and the trend may continue. While daytime temperatures could rise by about one degree Celsius, nighttime temperatures may fall again.

The BMD also reported that mild cold waves are currently affecting several districts, including Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Cumilla, and Naogaon. Its long-range forecast for January warns that at least five cold waves may sweep across the country this month, with one possibly becoming severe.

Earlier, meteorologist Md Omar Faruq said overall minimum temperatures might rise on Sunday and Monday, but a sharp drop is likely from Wednesday, which could trigger a fresh cold wave.

According to meteorological standards, temperatures between 8.1°C and 10°C indicate a mild cold wave, 6.1°C to 8°C a moderate one, 4.1°C to 6°C a severe cold wave, and anything below 4°C is considered extremely severe.
