During the holy month of Ramadan, a mosque in the occupied West Bank came under attack by Israeli settlers. The incident occurred on Monday, when assailants allegedly set fire to parts of the mosque and sprayed racist graffiti on its walls.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the attack targeted the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Mosque, located between the villages of Sarrra and Tal near Nablus in the northern West Bank.

As reported by Associated Press, worshippers arriving for the dawn (Fajr) prayer discovered smoke and burn marks at the mosque’s entrance. A nearby resident said he was shocked to find flames still visible, with broken glass and damaged doors.

Security camera footage reportedly showed two individuals approaching the mosque carrying petrol and spray paint before fleeing the scene shortly afterward.

Graffiti left on the mosque walls included derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad and the phrases “revenge” and “price tag,” a term often associated with retaliatory vandalism attacks.

Violence has continued in both Gaza and the West Bank since the outbreak of war in October 2023. According to recent data cited by the United Nations, at least 1,094 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces and settlers since the Gaza conflict began.

A recent report by the United Nations Human Rights Council warned that ongoing displacement and destruction of Palestinian property could amount to ethnic cleansing.

Figures from Palestinian authorities indicate that 45 mosques were attacked in the West Bank over the past year.
