A local journalist was hacked to death on Thursday night in Gazipur, reportedly over his involvement in exposing extortion through a video report.
The victim, Md Asaduzzaman Tuhin, was a district correspondent for the Bangla daily Pratidiner Kagoj. He was attacked around 8:00pm by a group of six to seven assailants in the Eidgah Market area near Chandana Chowrasta under the jurisdiction of Bason Police Station.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Islam confirmed that police recovered Tuhin’s body from the scene after receiving a call. The body has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
While the exact motive has yet to be officially determined, preliminary reports suggest the killing may be linked to a recent report Tuhin had shared about local extortion activities. Police say legal proceedings have begun and further investigations are ongoing.
