Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, expressed his vision for a Bangladesh based on equality, where the concepts of minority and majority should not exist. Speaking as the chief guest at a large workers’ conference in Kushtia on Saturday, he emphasized that all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity, should be regarded as equal citizens of the nation, with the Constitution and Allah’s guidance ensuring equal rights for all. He criticized past issues like extortion and land grabbing, stating that these problems were eradicated post-August 5. Jamaat’s efforts to eliminate these issues are rooted in its clean record, with no accusations of such activities against any of their leaders. Rahman also recalled the sacrifices of the party’s leaders, some of whom were murdered or unjustly executed. He discussed the legal battles faced by their leaders, including the controversial cases involving the late Delwar Hossain Sayeedi and Motiur Rahman Nizami. Rahman further explained that the Medina Charter, the first constitution of a modern state, guarantees the protection of rights for all people, regardless of their religion, and affirmed Jamaat’s commitment to making Bangladesh a strong and unified nation for all its citizens. The event was chaired by Kushtia District Jamaat Amir, Professor Maulana Abul Hashem, and attended by other central, regional, and district leaders.
