Jamaat-e-Islami set to meet EC

Jamaat-e-Islami is scheduled to meet with the Election Commission (EC) today. The party announced that a delegation, led by its Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, will hold discussions at the EC office in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday morning. Following the meeting, Mia Golam Parwar is expected to brief the press outside the Election Commission building.

 

Earlier, on February 9, a delegation from the BNP held a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other election commissioners. Led by BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, the delegation included Salahuddin Ahmed and Selima Rahman, both members of the Standing Committee.

 

During that meeting, Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin, election commissioners Anwarul Islam Sarkar, Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Begum Tahmida Ahmed, and retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah were present, alongside Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

 

Following the discussions, Nazrul Islam Khan stated that the BNP would oppose any electoral reforms proposed by the commission that hinder free and fair elections. He also remarked that the EC does not have the authority to set election dates but indicated that the EC is aiming to be fully prepared to conduct parliamentary elections by May or June.
