BNP’s Standing Committee member, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, stated that if the election takes place by December this year, the democratic process will remain on the right track. He made this remark after a meeting with European Union Ambassador Michael Miller and BNP representatives, led by the party’s Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at the party’s political office in Gulshan on Thursday (March 20).
Amir Khosru mentioned that discussions with the EU had focused on when the election will occur, when democratic order will return, and how the National Parliament supported by the people can be restored. The EU reaffirmed its support for reforms and expressed willingness to assist in areas requiring cooperation. He also emphasized that the timing of the election is secondary, and if there is consensus, a solution will be found, with political parties implementing it in Parliament. He believes that if the election is held by December, democracy will stay on course.
The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, included Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Shama Obaid, and members of BNP’s National Standing Committee and International Affairs Committee. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury briefed the media after the meeting.
