The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has proposed lowering the voting age to 16 and the minimum age for election candidates to 23, which it plans to submit to the National Consensus Commission.
At an urgent press conference held on Saturday morning at Rupayan Center in the capital, NCP’s Joint Convener, Sarwar Tushar, announced that the party would present its reform recommendations to the commission on Sunday.
He emphasized that NCP considers the current constitution invalid following the mass uprising and is calling for the drafting of a new one. According to Sarwar, the upcoming election should serve as a Constituent Assembly, which, after completing constitutional reforms, would transition into a legislative body within a specified timeframe.
