Advocate Shishir Monir, legal counsel for Jamaat-e-Islami, has urged party members not to lose hope over the unresolved issue of the party’s registration. He expressed optimism that Jamaat would soon regain both its registration and electoral symbol. Speaking about ATM Azharul Islam, a senior party leader imprisoned for over a decade, Monir mentioned that legal proceedings for his release are complete, with only the final hearing pending, which is expected to be resolved within this month.

As political parties prepare for elections ahead of the announcement of a caretaker government’s schedule, Jamaat has reportedly finalized candidates in nearly 300 constituencies, despite the Supreme Court not yet deciding on its registration status. Following the mass uprising eight months ago, frustrations have grown within the party over the delay. Monir, however, noted that such delays are part of the legal process and not unusual. He added that the country’s top court will resume hearings from Sunday, though proceedings will pause between April 23 and 30 due to the Chief Justice’s overseas travel. Final decisions on both the registration and Azharul Islam’s release are expected soon after.
