The National Citizen Party (NCP) has alleged that prior to the attack on its South Region chief organizer, Hasnat Abdullah, several leaders and activists of the banned organization Chhatra League had threatened him with violence on social media. In a press release issued late Sunday night (May 4) and signed by NCP’s Joint Secretary (Office), Saleh Uddin Sifat, the party referenced a survey by PIB’s fact-checking wing BanglaFact, which documented 36 attacks in the past nine months on individuals and families linked to the student-public uprising. These incidents resulted in 89 injuries and one death. However, NCP claims that the interim government has failed to take swift and effective action against those responsible, particularly regarding the perpetrators of the July massacre. The party blames the attack on Hasnat Abdullah on the continued impunity enjoyed by the ruling Awami League and the inaction of law enforcement. In protest, NCP staged immediate demonstrations in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Barishal, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Comilla, Kishoreganj, Faridpur, Bogura, Rangpur, and Keraniganj, demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved in the recent assault and the July killings.
