Sergius Alam, the chief organizer for the northern region of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has asserted that any interim government must engage directly with the families of July revolution martyrs before vacating office.

Speaking at a commemorative event on Saturday (July 26) at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center, Sergius stated that the government cannot evade accountability. “If the July Charter is not announced by the 31st, the families of the martyrs will decide their course of action. They won’t wait for anyone’s endorsement,” he warned. “The government must publicly declare what reforms have been made over the past year.”

He further remarked that the memorial event will only be truly complete when all expected figures attend and justice is served for those who lost their lives. “The day those responsible—including killer Hasina—face justice, will be the day this gathering finds its true purpose,” he added. “All stakeholders must answer to the martyrs’ families.”
